Like many I was frightened off of this book by the timeline. The book and the series was sidelined and stuck in my...maybe read it sometime file.

I am glad I waited. When I finished Black Gown the thought that Dash and Pippin would spend 20 years apart was unthinkable.

Coming back to this book after time had passed was like rediscovering a first love.

The story is unique, the characters complex, and the plot unexpected.

Yes, there were a few lines tread close to for the romance genre, but imo none of the "rules" were broken.

Red Dress explored something you rarely see in the genre, a lost love that is reclaimed not after a month or a year, but a lifetime.

It was real, it was poignant, and it was an excellent book.

As a stand alone I would give it 5 stars, but as part of a series there was a huge disconnect. Which has unfortunately resulted in many unhappy fans.

If you love the series, but like me set this one aside.

Give it a chance, you won't regret it.

great story line
Elizabeth Boyle's books are fun reads, and this one, Memoirs Of A Little Red Dress was one of the best, if not THE BEST! Found myself tearing up in parts.
slow in some places ,needed a little more ump to it.
Ever since the love story of Pippin and Dash was introduced in this perfect rake or this rake of mine. Cant remember the name.
I waited eagerly and read with great enjoiment about them. In three books where they were just a binote. In confesions of a scandalous black dress I got abit of a heart break when Pippin married some other fellow.

But decided to buy the book anyway hoping that the author would make it all right somehow.
The book was to me a great disapointment Pippin lived for over two decades with a man that is described as nice an adeqaute lover.
She raised two kids with this man. It sounds like such a tepid life for. Girl of Pippins passions The story jumps back and forth betwen young Pippin and Dash and their midleagged personalitis. Pippin seems to have kept her spunk but Dash and the lovestory is a faded picture of what could have been.
I have loved all of Elizabeth Boyle's books until this book. I read the first 2 chapters and was so disappointed that I couldn't read anymore. I did skim the book and the sadness I felt just continued. I cried for Pippin and Dash. How could Ms Boyle do this to one of my favorite couples. I think of them from time to time now and my heart hurts for them.
Boyle wraps up Phillipa Knolles' story neatly and happily in this installment of the Bachelor Chronicles. Phillipa finally is able to obtain her desire for love and freedom, proving once again that "good things come to those who wait." It is also very nice change that the heroine is an older and wiser woman, allowing the reader to see that passion does not have to die with maturity and wisdom. As a plus, the reader also gets to discover Captain Dashwell's fate. The story is full of funny twists and turns and is thoroughly enjoyable.
Their story started 20 plus years ago. I was led to Pippin's story by Talli's. I love both these books. Would highly recommend both. And since I started this series in the middle I am going to go back to the first one but it's not necessary to enjoy these characters.
Dash is no longer the swashbuckling privateer and Pippin is a proper staid Lady Gossett. But they had started with a kiss and she continued to save him. But this 40 something mother still needs her pirate lessons and Captain Dash is in need of saving.
