I need to find whoever mentioned this series and buy them dinner and drinks as a thankyou - I fell in love with the first book and have GLOMMED everything written since in the St Mary's series and I LOVE THEM SO HARD!!This was an excellent installment, we have Neanderthals and mammoths, Joan of Arc, battle scenes, swamp scenes, exploding pigs and the usual St Mary's goings on. What I liked most about this book was that Max has 5 new trainees and a new training program to test drive and, well, whats the worst that could happen?
There was some rather heavy handed foreshadowing, some of which was so obvious that the final reveal I had already guessed it which was a shame

What Could Possibly Go Wrong? The Chronicles of St Mary Book Six The Chronicles of St Mary 6 edition by Jodi Taylor Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I find the title to this latest installment of my favorite time travel hijinks series highly amusing because I thought I already knew all the ways in which things would go wrong in this world. It turns out that I was tragically wrong, and I'm so thrilled that this author can keep surprising me.
It seems so long ago that we accompanied Max through her own training process. How things have flipped, as on the heels of a partial knee replacement, Max is on "light" duty as the new Chief Training Officer. Her five trainees are all well fleshed-out characters that I couldn't help but root for.
My biggest disappointment with this novel was personal in nature and in no way diminishes the quality of the book. I was so excited by the prospect of information about this universe's future America, especially when the character in question grew more and more suspicious. However, this information does not come to pass as a new mystery about possible foes to St. Mary's emerges instead.
In addition, a final mystery left over from previous books is finally solved. Rather than treating the revelation as a final piece of the puzzle, Taylor delves into the duality of human nature with a depth that you might not expect in a comedic adventure series.
I can't wait to find out more about the new villain(s) in this series, especially since Max's life is about to be turned upside down once again.
Again Max finds herself hurtled through time where everything that could go wrong does but in totally unexpected ways and this time she has students with her. St. Mary’s will never be the same if any of the students actually make it to graduation.
“These days, people actually sought me out and asked me for advice on personal relationships, romantic problems, and social issues which, quite honestly, is a bit like asking an anorexic for recipes.”
Since Max is on the mend after all the trouble she put herself through in prior books it was though wise by the powers that be for her and Peterson to switch roles for a little while and have Max give teaching a go. This leads to all kinds of new mayhem and hilarity. We all know what the regular graduation rate is for St. Mary’s but with Max in the mix they will be lucky if any recruits make it to graduation.
As always I love the jaunts into history that never go where you think they will. This is my first 5 star read of the series but Jodi Taylor continues to not be afraid to torture her main character, this time with an American student (the horror). Not to mention throwing some characters right into the line of fire and if you’ve read any of her prior books you know they don’t always make it out alive.
I liked the overall plot of this book and having the trainees in tow really gave Max’s character even more depth and she had students to torture a little so fun for everyone involved.
Plus that little tid-bit at the end should make things in the future even more interesting for our Historical Heroine.
Again I'm surprised by how well Jodi Taylor has kept the story of Max and her historians moving along. After all the books, and I've read the all, this volume is as fresh, funny, tragic and as wierd as all the rest.
I cannot imagne too many authors who can combine Neanderthals, King Tut, a mammoth [named Mary by the way], an exploding pig, Joan of Arc, Richard III, a visit from the "cops", mayhem in general, an ending that sets the stage for what is to come and pull it off so well and enjoyably. I believe the ending sets us up for an entirely new meaning to "What Could Possibly Go Wrong". If Mary the Mammoth could wreck such havoc, I can hardly wait to see what......., read the book and find out "what the what probably is", no spoilers here.
I have to say that this volume had scenes that had me laughing harder and longer the any previous books. It's probably not a book to be reading in public, lest you want to be thought of as being a little bonkers. On the other hand, historians do die and people are seriously injured by things that go terribly wrong, so there is some balance in the story.
I totally enjoyed how Ms Taylor incorporated the death of Richard III, the discovery of his remains under a parking lot in 2013 and then managed to "explain" the origin of the mysterious "R" that marked his grave. A very nice piece of writing. I can hardly wait for the next installment as much as I know that 12 hours after I get it, I'll be saying the same thing.....agian.
What more can I possibly say about the Chronicles of St. Mary’s? If you describe the plot or the characters, it would not do justice to the books or to the talent of Jodi Taylor. I am astounded that I have read and enjoyed these books so much. I care about the characters, which makes no objective sense. I give the credit again to the talent of Jodi Taylor. Despite what would sound like repetitive plots, reappearing foes and friends that were dead (or not now), frequent explosions and fundraising activities (sometimes together), she has maintained my interest. Somehow, even the reappearance of the friends and foes who were dead is not irritating or inconsistent. She makes me take fantastic things at face value and just run with it. This is an extraordinary talent. I enjoy the humor in the books and, surprisingly, the history. Time travel in this series is dirty, smelly, dangerous, and fun.
